My Fall Edit
Every fall, there are about a million things I could buy.
New trends. New colors. New boots. New denim. New versions of things I already own.
And even though it is fun to buy all new things, I’m sort of over that. I’m more interested in buying fewer things, and working with what I already have in my closet. Some things are worth more of an investment, and other things not so much.
So instead of a giant fall shopping list, here are the things I’m actually looking for this season.
A Really Good Pair of Jeans
I’m starting with the thing I probably wear more than anything else: jeans.
This fall, I’m looking for denim with a relaxed, slightly effortless shape. I still love a wide leg, but I’m also drawn to straight-leg and slightly relaxed fits that work with loafers, clogs, sneakers, and boots.
The goal isn't to find the trendiest pair of jeans.
It’s to find the pair I’ll reach for three times a week.
And if they look good with a simple sweater and great shoes? Even better.
A Great Sweater
I don't need ten new sweaters.
I want one really good one.
Something in a beautiful neutral—cream, oatmeal, camel, gray, or chocolate—that can be thrown on with jeans, layered over a skirt, or worn with trousers.
I especially love a sweater that looks a little oversized without completely swallowing me.
Basically: cozy, but still polished.
Clogs
This is one trend I'm actually buying into.
Clogs have that perfect combination of comfortable and slightly unexpected. And I love the way they look with denim.
Wide-leg jeans + clogs + a simple sweater is pretty much my idea of an easy fall outfit.
I’m particularly interested in a pair in a neutral leather or suede that can become an everyday shoe rather than a “trend piece” I wear twice.
A Barn Jacket
The barn jacket is another one I'm genuinely excited about.
It has that slightly outdoorsy, European-country feel that makes even a very simple outfit look intentional.
I can picture it over jeans and a sweater, with sneakers for a casual day or loafers when I want to look a little more pulled together.
And unlike some seasonal trends, this is one I can see myself wearing for years.
That’s the kind of trend I want to spend money on.
A Skirt
I want to wear more skirts this fall.
Not necessarily anything super dressy—just an easy, wearable skirt that works with sweaters and boots. This one is a great transitional piece. Cute with sandals and a long sleeve shirt, and also with a chunky sweater and ankle boots. Very fall without trying too hard.
And I love having an alternative to jeans when I still want an outfit that feels effortless.
A Bag I’ll Carry Everywhere
I don't need another bag just because it's cute.
There’s been a lot of talk lately about whether crossbody bags are “out.” Personally, I’m not giving mine up. I need a bag that stays put, leaves my hands free, and actually works for my life. I’m all for trying new shapes, but I’m not going to give up function just because something suddenly isn’t considered trendy.
A Pair of Boots
Every fall wardrobe needs a good pair of boots, and this year I'm looking for something that can do a lot of work. I need them for Chicago in October, and the Christmas Markets in Germany in November. Plus a few days a week.
I'm leaning toward a streamlined ankle boot—something that works with straight-leg jeans, skirts, and dresses. Think a clean silhouette, minimal hardware, and a slightly refined toe rather than a chunky lug sole.
I don't want a boot that's so trendy that it feels dated next fall.
I want the boot I can pull out year after year
One Trendy Thing
This is important.
I don't want my entire fall wardrobe to be made up of “safe” pieces.
I just don't want to buy an entirely new wardrobe every time the trends change.
So I'm giving myself permission to buy one fun thing.
And I’m going with cheetah print, and I LOVE it. I really love a statement jean or shoe the most. These jeans with a simple top and sneakers or clogs. I am also loving these new Gola print sneakers. Gola is one of my absolute fav’s and in this print…yes please.
Fashion should still be fun.
At the end of the day, I don’t need a completely new wardrobe every fall. I want a few things that feel fresh, a few things that I know I’ll wear over and over, and maybe one or two pieces that are just fun.
For me, it’s about figuring out where it’s worth spending a little more and where it really isn’t. I want things that work with the clothes I already own and make getting dressed feel easier—not a closet full of things I bought because they happened to be trending.
So these are the pieces I’m keeping my eye on this fall. Some are investments, some are just for fun, and all of them are things I can actually see myself wearing.
