Fall Sneakers 2026

If there’s one shoe category I don’t think we’re giving up anytime soon, it’s the sneaker.

But the sneakers I’m seeing for Fall 2026 feel a little different. The oversized, ultra-chunky sneaker trend is making room for slimmer silhouettes, richer colors, suede textures, vintage-inspired shapes, and sneakers that look just as good with jeans as they do with trousers.

And honestly? I’m here for it.

The best part is that you don't need eight new pairs of sneakers to update your wardrobe. You just need to find the style that works with what you already own.

These are the 6 sneaker trends for Fall 2026 that I think are actually worth paying attention to — and, more importantly, worth wearing.

The Slim Retro Sneaker

The slim, vintage-inspired sneaker is having a major moment.

Think low-profile, slightly nostalgic sneakers with a shape that feels more like something you might have found in a vintage shop than a performance shoe.

They're especially good with denim because they don't compete with the proportions of your jeans.

How I'd wear them:
Wide-leg jeans + a fitted or slightly oversized sweater + a long wool coat + slim retro sneakers.

The key is keeping the rest of the outfit simple. Let the sneaker add that little bit of vintage cool.

The takeaway: If you only buy one new sneaker this fall, a slim retro style is probably the most versatile place to start.

Suede Sneakers

Suede and fall just make sense.

There's something about a suede sneaker that immediately makes an otherwise basic outfit feel more intentional. Instead of the crisp, sporty feeling of a white leather sneaker, suede gives you something softer and more seasonal.

Look for shades like taupe, chocolate, camel, olive, or warm gray.

How I'd wear them:
Straight-leg jeans + cream sweater + camel jacket + suede sneakers.

They're also a great way to transition your favorite sneakers from summer into fall without completely changing your wardrobe.

The Clean Court Sneaker

Some trends come and go. A clean, simple sneaker isn't one of them.

The classic court sneaker continues to earn its place in a fall wardrobe because it works with practically everything.

The 2026 version feels especially good when it's simple and streamlined rather than overly chunky.

Think clean leather, minimal branding, and a silhouette that doesn't overwhelm your outfit.

How I'd wear them:
Ankle-length trousers + fitted tee + cardigan + structured jacket + clean white sneakers.

They're also perfect for those days when you want to look pulled together but don't want to wear loafers or boots.

Metallic Sneakers

This one might not be for everyone — but I think that's what makes it fun.

Silver and metallic sneakers are an easy way to add something unexpected to an otherwise simple outfit.

And you don't need to dress "fashiony" to wear them.

In fact, I think metallic sneakers look best when everything else is incredibly simple.

Try:
Blue jeans + white sweater + camel coat + silver sneakers.

Brown Sneakers

We've spent years treating white sneakers as the neutral sneaker.

But for fall, I'm looking at brown.

Chocolate, espresso, cognac, and even slightly reddish brown sneakers feel incredibly fresh with the colors we're already wearing in autumn.

And they work surprisingly well with denim.

Try them with:
Blue jeans + oatmeal sweater + brown belt + brown sneakers.

Or pair them with cream jeans, a chocolate cardigan, and a camel coat for a tonal fall look.

If you already own a white sneaker you love, a brown sneaker is the addition I'd consider next.

That's it.

The metallic sneaker becomes the accessory.

If you've been wearing the same white sneakers for years and want something that feels completely different without being impractical, this is the trend I'd look at.

The Retro Running Sneaker

The retro running sneaker is still going strong, but I'm looking for versions that feel a little more streamlined.

This is where brands like New Balance, ASICS, Saucony, and Rebok come in.

The trick is choosing a pair that feels intentional rather than overly athletic.

How I'd wear them:
Wide-leg jeans + simple white tee + oversized cardigan + retro running sneakers.

Or try them with straight-leg jeans and a blazer.

This is one of my favorite ways to make a more polished outfit feel relaxed.

So, Which Sneaker Trend Should You Actually Buy?

Here's my rule when it comes to trends:

Don't buy something simply because it's trending. Buy the version of the trend that solves a problem in your closet.

Already have a great white sneaker? You probably don't need another one.

Want something that feels more fall? Try suede or brown.

Want to make your everyday jeans look more current? Try a slim retro sneaker.

Want something unexpected? Go metallic.

And if you're someone who lives in denim — like I do — the right sneaker can completely change the way your jeans look.

My Fall Sneaker Shopping Rule

If you're going to add a sneaker to your wardrobe this fall, choose one that works with at least three outfits you already own.

Because the goal isn't to have more shoes.

It's to have better shoes.

And if a $70–$150 pair of sneakers can make your favorite jeans, sweater, and coat feel completely different, that's a trend I can get behind.
