The Perfect 5-Day Southern Girls Road Trip: Charleston, Beaufort & Savannah
If you’re looking for the perfect Southern girls getaway filled with charming streets, waterfront views, great food, shopping, and relaxed coastal vibes, this road trip is such a fun option. I recently did this trip myself and loved the mix of historic cities, slower small-town charm, and easy driving days. Grab your besties and get that trip booked, and OUT of the chat!
Day 1: Fly Into Atlanta + Drive to Charleston
We flew into Atlanta, grabbed a rental car, and headed straight to Charleston to start the trip. Its a long drive, so make sure you grab a coffee.
After checking in, we spent the evening walking through the historic district, finding a fun dinner spot (we loved Iron Rose) and then a quick walk down to White Point Garden Park for the sunset. The houses are amazing here and the trees are gorgeous.
We went in the fall and the weather was dreamy. Think cool evenings, and crisp mornings with high’s in the low 70’s. I packed jeans, clogs, light sweaters and t-shirts.
Day 2: Exploring Charleston
Charleston ended up being one of my favorite stops. We spent the day walking historic streets, browsing shops, grabbing brunch, and just wandering.
You can easily fill a day here without feeling rushed.
Things I loved:
Historic neighborhoods and colorful homes
Shopping and coffee stops
Long walks around town
What I Wore in Charleston
This city is very walkable, so comfort mattered.
I stuck with:
White runners/clogs (mine are sold out, these are so similar)
Sunglasses and a lightweight layer (this is a dupe from a boutique sweater and it is perfect)
Day 3: Charleston to Beaufort to Savannah
This ended up being one of my favorite days of the trip.
On the drive south, we stopped in Beaufort, which honestly felt like such a hidden gem. Slower pace, waterfront views, cute streets, and the perfect place to stretch your legs and grab lunch.
If you have time, don’t skip the waterfront area.
After Beaufort, we continued to Savannah and checked into our hotel.
What I Wore
A simple road-trip outfit:
Day 4: Savannah Girls Day
Savannah is a postcard city. We spent the day wandering historic squares, shopping, grabbing drinks, and walking along the riverfront.
It feels charming and relaxed without being boring.
If you love:
Historic charm
Boutique shopping
Good restaurants
Cute photo spots
…you’ll love Savannah.
Day 5: Savannah → Macon → Atlanta
Instead of making one long drive back, we stopped in Macon to break things up before heading to Atlanta for our flight home.
It was the perfect final stop to grab lunch, walk around a bit, and avoid that “we’ve been in the car forever” feeling.
If you’re planning this itinerary, I definitely recommend adding the stop. From charming streets and unforgettable meals to late-night laughs and slow Southern mornings, this girls’ trip through the South is the kind of getaway that stays with you long after you’re home. Whether you came for the history, the food, or simply time together, Charleston and the South have a way of making you slow down, soak it all in, and start planning the next trip before this one even ends. 💛
