My Go-To Travel Shoes
(That I Actually Wear on Every Trip)
Packing for a trip used to stress me out more than it should—until I figured out one thing:
your shoes will make or break your entire travel experience.
Whether I’m wandering cobblestone streets in Europe, walking all day through cities, or heading to dinner after a long day of exploring, I rotate between a few tried-and-true pairs that never fail me.
These are my favorite travel shoes—the ones I always come back to.
New Balance 327: My All-Day Walking Shoe
If I had to pick just one shoe for a trip, it would be the New Balance 327.
These are my go-to for long walking days—airport travel, city exploring, or anything where I know I’ll be on my feet for hours. They’re lightweight, breathable, and have just enough cushion without feeling bulky. I’ve walked miles in them and never had blisters, which is honestly rare.
What I love most is that they don’t look like a typical “walking shoe.” They’re stylish enough to wear with jeans, athleisure, or even a casual dress.
Best for: Travel days, city walking, casual sightseeing
Birkenstocks: Effortless Comfort (Especially in Europe)
I never travel without my Birkenstocks.
They’re one of those shoes that just get better the more you wear them. The cork footbed molds to your feet over time, giving you that custom comfort feel.
They’re perfect for slower days—walking around coastal towns, grabbing coffee, or strolling through markets. Plus, they instantly give that relaxed European vibe.
Best for: Warm weather, slower days, beach towns, casual outfits
Veja Sneakers: Elevated & Minimal
If I want to look a little more put-together, I always pack my Veja sneakers.
These are my “cool girl in Europe” shoes. They’re clean, minimal, and instantly elevate any outfit. Think: trench coat, straight-leg jeans, sunglasses…you get the vibe.
They’re not as cushioned as my New Balances, but they’re great for moderate walking days when I still want style to be a priority.
Best for: City outfits, dinners, stylish travel days
Adidas Sambas & Gazelles: Trendy but Classic
I rotate between Adidas Sambas and Gazelles, depending on my mood.
Both are classic, low-profile sneakers that have been around forever (literally—Sambas date back to 1949, and Gazelles to the 1960s).
They’re super versatile and go with everything—but I’ll be honest: they’re not my top pick for long walking days. They’re a bit flatter and can take some breaking in.
That said, they’re perfect when I want a trendy, effortless look.
Best for: Outfits, shorter walking days, casual styling
Born Sandals (With a Back Strap): The Underrated MVP
These are seriously underrated.
My Born sandals with a back strap are what I reach for when I want something more secure than flip flops but still breathable. The back strap makes a huge difference—you don’t have to grip your toes while walking (if you know, you know).
They’re comfortable enough for exploring but nice enough to wear to dinner, which makes them a great “two-in-one” travel shoe.
Best for: Walking + dinners, warm destinations, versatile packing
Final Thoughts: What I Actually Pack
If I’m packing smart, I usually bring:
1 walking sneaker: New Balance 327
1 stylish sneaker: Veja or Sambas/Gazelles
1 sandal: Birkenstocks or Born
That’s it. Three pairs max—and I’m covered for literally everything.
The biggest mistake I used to make? Packing shoes based on outfits instead of function. Now I do the opposite—and my trips are so much better because of it.
